Meet Leslie:
In third grade, I'd write newsbroadcasts and report them at the dinner table to my parents delight and my brothers' boredom. I'd report accidents, forest fires, robberies, and once I reported that John Doe had been arrested for selling "nicarana". A weed savvy 9 year old I was not.
First gig in broadcasting was doing the news for an AM news station. The first time I met my boss, the GM, I had just pulled an all nighter checking out GNR at Madison Square Garden (Soundgarden opened for them!) and I was lookin' a bit rough. Torn jeans, smeared mascara, sweaty tank top, hair reeking of cigarette smoke, you get the idea, not the way you'd like to meet your boss for the first time. I'd been working there for a few months and we had never met. The look on his face, upon meeting the "nice, conservative, newsgirl" was priceless and it was my first indication that, perhaps, rock radio was a more suitable venue for me.
All nighters are encouraged here at Lazer and my boss expects nothing more than ripped jeans and concert T's. I am home.
